PBS: Need To Know – Making a Safer Hot Dog

Food designer Eugene D. Gagliardi Jr. demonstrates how one of the most famous of summer foods, the hot dog, can be transformed into a safer eat for kids (can you say “octopus?”).


  • Create a radio and/or TV commercial to advertise this new technology.
  • Identify other foods that put young children at risk when eaten. What could you do to make them safer to eat? How would you do it?
